In managing the psychotic patient, it is important for the physician to be aware of the possibility that the patient may interpret in a distorted ( delusional) way the physician's own role, the objectives of the questions asked and the conduct ( eg, think that the doctor is part of a plot to kill him). The doctor should use one language clear and sentences short, explaining to the patient as far as possible the procedures to be performed and the fact of that everything is being done in order to help you. Some times, es- these patients have levels of agitation and aggression that prevent a full assessment. In such cases, mechanical or chemical containment can be used before the evaluation to reduce the behavior agitated, allowing one review more secure.
The interview with the family is important to obtain objective data in order to determine the extent of the problem, the patient's functional impairment and the existing risks, being of great help in obtaining data from previous episodes .
