This manual was established in December 1981, following as faithfully as possible the revised version of Dai-Nippon Kendo Kata which had been enlarged with addition of footnotes by Dai-Nippon-Butokukai in May, 1933, and incorporating the results of both Referee & Kata Committee of AJKF in July, 1966 and Kodansha Committee in February 1977. Traditional instruction and newly formed instruction have been both included. This book explains the All Japan Kendo Kata with detailed pictures for easy understanding. In English, for non Japanese speaking people. Created by the All Japan Kendo Federation (AJKF). The official Kendo Kata guide. You must have this before the Dan promotion test.
Nihon Kendo Kata was created by integrating many kata (forms) from different kenjutsu schools in 1912. The purpose of this action was, I heard, to keep the traditional kenjutsu forms in kendo to remember where kendo came from. Kata consists of 7 kata with tachi (long sword) and 3 kata with kodachi (short sword).
