When you first go through a break-up, realize that it's going to hurt. The pain will take some time to get over, but accept it and take it in. One thing to remember is that EVERYONE has been through this type of pain in his or her lives before. You are NOT ALONE. Find support from your friends and family to help you get through this time. It's okay to cry and lay in bed all day to let the sadness soak in. That's normal. Take this time to treat yourself. Eat that bucket of ice cream, or go on a fast food binge. After all you've been through, you deserve to treat yourself a little bit.

Once you've passed this stage, it's going to hurt a bit less, but the pain will still be there. It's going to be hard finding motivation to do anything, but remember that it's going to be okay. Remember that getting over a divorce or a breakup is a process, and you're still in the early stages. It's going to be just fine. You need to give it some more time.

Find ANY positives that may have come from the break-up. It can range from saving more money to less nagging to having more freedom to pursue your passions and goals. Find ANY LITTLE thing you can to help yourself get back on track.

Learn to appreciate what YOU HAVE. Be thankful that you were able to find someone to love as much as you did. The more pain you're feeling the happier you were in the relationship. Realize that everyone would love to have that type of relationship, and you were able to experience it first hand. Be thankful for all the great moments you had, and also be excited for the future as well. If you can get a girlfriend/wife before, you can do it again. Believe in yourself!

You should give yourself more opportunities to meet others. Log onto online dating apps, and start swiping. If online dating apps are not for you, you can try meetups. Find your passions or interests, and if you enjoy learning French, biking, painting, music, go to the specific meetups. That way you have an activity that you LIKE to keep you busy on top of a chance to possibly meet a significant other.

Continue to keep your mind occupied. If you're stuck at home moping, that will create more opportunities for your mind to wander back into sadness and depression. Continue to go out and keep your mind occupied. Find a passion or pick a new hobby. Something like tennis, swimming, or boxing could be a GREAT hobby to pick up. You get to exercise to blow off steam, become healthier, and it can take your mind off of things.

When you do start to go on dates again, remember that not everything is going to be exactly the same. It's not healthy to compare your new relationship to your old one.
