Description of
Sherlock Holmes - The Stuff of Nightmares
So, what didn't I like about the book? The story is written by Watson as a old man and is supposedly intended only for himself and not for publication, but sometimes he gets a little coy. For example, he ends a chapter with the words, "Sherlock Holmes was dead." And then opens the next chapter: "Now, I'm am not going to maintain the pretence here that Holmes was really dead. Of course he was not....Even when writing for no audience but myself, I still feel the need to incite a theoretical reader to read on." That's just a little too cute for me. But it doesn't happen often and including the opening comment of "all hell broke loose" those are the only times I found myself thinking, "that really doesn't sound at all like Watson." Otherwise, I read this book straight through in one day and never tired of it for a minute.
