Description of
5 Pencil method - DRAWING STUDY NO.3: Strawberry
Many of you who voted for this drawing study on the survey also commented that you were a little bit afraid that the strawberry was too complex and might be too hard to draw. That’s why "Drawing Study No. 3: Strawberry" is split into two parts: For the first half... ...you’ll see how to build the base layer of the somewhat complex-looking texture created by the seeds and dimples. But as you go through and demystify each element in this strawberry, you’ll see which important aspects to capture and how putting a few simple principles together makes your pencil strokes take on another quality altogether. Then, halfway through... ...we’ll switch to a more completed version of the drawing and look at how continuing to add layers will push the drawing further and accentuate the reflective quality in the water droplets and juicy inside of the fruit. This will also help us clarify how ripe the fruit is while still separating the different dimensions of the strawberry.
