Description of  Elias Makarska: Retired Chief of Police

Elias is the sixth in a line of Makarska men who have served in militia, army and police roles in New Zealand since his Croatian ancestor in 1902. Now he's retired, but he keeps his finger on the pulse. The new chief of police is a career man, and the two men are often at loggerheads when Elias wants to get things done.
