Description of
Decimals: Covers Understanding Decimal Places and Calculating with Decimals (Maths Is Not A Mystery)
For children to really succeed in the KS2 SATs, they need confidence in their own ability and they need to be able to talk about their work with adults. Many adults are a little nervous about teaching their children 'the wrong way' in maths because they have heard that the subject is taught differently today. The Primary Maths Is Not A Mystery series is a set of books that show adults how maths is taught, giving the adult a chance to discuss confidently and work with their child. The work progresses in gentle steps and their is lots of opportunity to practice and to see in detail how the answers to questions have been worked out. This book is about decimals at Year 5 and 6. We explain what decimals are and why we use them. Then we look at the skills of multiplying numbers by 10 and 100 where numbers move across a decimal point. The next part of the book looks in detail at how we calculate with decimals, including solving 'worded' problems. Everything your child needs to know about calculating and working with decimals for KS2 SATs is included in this book. There is a separate book for comparing Decimals, Fractions and Percentages, since this requires different skills.
