Eine Kulturgeschichte des Zweirads voller berraschungen vom Ausbruch eines Vulkans am Beginn bis zur Revolution des E-Bikes. Kein Verkehrsmittel ist auf der ganzen Welt so weit verbreitet. Keines ist so zahlreich vorhanden. Keines hat eine solche rasante Entwicklung durchgemacht: Von der Laufmaschine ber das Hoch- und Niederrad, vom Tret- zum Rennrad und Elektrobike hat sich das Fahrrad gegen alle Konkurrenten durchgesetzt und ist das weitverbreitetste Verkehrsmittel. Etwa 1214 Milliarden Fahrrder wurden seit seiner Erfindung gebaut und 72 Millionen werden allein in Deutschland bewegt. Das Fahrrad ist fr jedermann erschwinglich, wie gerade seine Verbreitung in Indien oder China heute oder in Europa und Nordamerika im 19. Jahrhundert belegt. Auch die gesellschaftliche, ja kulturelle Vernderung, die das Fahrrad ermglichte, ist beeindruckend. Die anstehende E-Bike-Revolution lsst heute schon erahnen: Bald werden Jung und Alt mobil wie noch nie sein, und der individuelle Verkehr in den Stdten wird sich von Grund auf verndern dank des Fahrrads, das seit seiner Erfindung keinen Tag gealtert ist.
