] Anne Hbert n'est plus, au moment d'aller sous presse, nous apprenons la triste nouvelle. Une des voix les plus singulires de notre jeune littrature s'est tue jamais. Elle tait certainement l'crivain qubcois le plus connu et le plus clbr, tant au Qubec qu' l'tranger, et notamment en France o elle a publi tous ses livres (ou presque) depuis quarante ans. S'il est un crivain du Qubec qui mrite le qualificatif d'universel, c'est bien elle. Mme Rjean Ducharme ne jouit pas, dans la francophonie, d'une rputation aussi enviable que l'auteur de Kamouraska et des Fous de Bassan.Par ailleurs, dans le cadre de notre littrature, le nom d'Anne Hbert brille constamment chacune des dcennies, depuis que, dans les annes quarante, elle a fait paratre les Songes en quilibre. On peut saluer en elle l'un des principaux crivains des annes cinquante cause de trois grands livres, le Torrent, le Tombeau des rois et les Chambres de bois. Mais elle tient un rang aussi lev dans les dcennies qui suivent, grce ses Pomes qui paraissent au Seuil en 1960, grce Kamouraska en 1970, puis aux romans et, tout rcemment, aux recueils de pomes qui se sont succd, sans parler de son thtre qui figure en bonne place dans notre littrature dramatique. Anne Hbert est donc un crivain des annes cinquante, soixante, soixante-dix, quatre-vingt et quatre-vingt-dix, elle est de toutes les poques de notre modernit, la fois bien inscrite en chacune et y occupant cependant une place part.
